Real Madrid manager Xavi Alonso has opened the door to a future move to former club Liverpool if the opportunity arises. Alonso reportedly refused to return to Anfield during his time at Bayer Leverkusen, insisting on competing for Real Madrid’s place, but the hot spots for both clubs are currently uncertain.
Liverpool boss Arne Slott is currently under intense pressure on Merseyside, with the Reds comfortably winning the title last year, finishing 10th in the Premier League and investing heavily in the summer. Meanwhile, at Real Madrid, Alonso is likely to need a game against Manchester City this week to secure his stay.

Part of the drama surrounding Liverpool is the rift between manager Slott and star striker Mohamed Salah, who was left out of this week’s squad against Inter Milan after publicly criticizing the club. Alonso declined to mention the issue.
“These are decisions they make at Liverpool. There is no doubt that we missed a lot of details. So it’s not my place to comment on that.” He went on to say that he would not change his behavior towards Vinicius Junior after the Brazilian reacted poorly when he was substituted against Barcelona earlier this season.

If Slaughter is fired, Alonso is considered one of the leading candidates to replace him if he becomes available. He was asked about his thoughts on returning to the Premier League as a head coach.
“Of course, it’s something for English clubs and my previous clubs to think about. But now, this is where I want to be and in the future, you never know what might happen.”
