Anyone shopping for a car may be wondering which brands are the best and which are the worst in 2026.
Consumer Reports, an independent research nonprofit, ranked 31 automakers. The rating is based on an average of the new vehicle’s overall score, taking into account the results of road testing, safety assessments and reliability, and owner satisfaction surveys.
Out of 31 automakers, these are the 10 best and worst car brands for next year.

In descending order, these are the worst car brands, according to Consumer Reports.
Not all car brands are included.
“We only include an automaker in our brand rankings if we’ve tested at least two current models,” the nonprofit said. “So you won’t see ratings here for Fiat, Infiniti, Jaguar, Lucid, Maserati, Polestar, or Ram.”
