Georgia Bulldogs College Football Playoff ranking predictions, path

The Georgia Bulldogs (12-1) defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide (10-3) 28-7 in the 2025 SEC Championship Game. A victory over Georgia means the Bulldogs will get a bye in the first round of the College Football Playoff.

The Bulldogs will soon know their playoff fate, with the selection committee announcing the final 12 teams at noon ET on Sunday. However, until the committee makes its final decision, we can’t help but predict what Georgia’s path to the playoffs will look like.

Georgia will not play in the first round. We project Georgia to be the No. 2 seed in the playoffs after winning the SEC. It’s the same fate Georgia had last season, but the playoffs have changed the format and no longer automatically bid farewell to the division title.

Estimated Playoff Fields

  1. Indiana (Big Ten Champion)

  2. Texas Tech (Big 12 Champion)

  3. Tulane University (Highest Ranked Five Champion)

First out: Miami Hurricanes (projected)

CFP quarterfinals (projected)

  • No. 1 Indiana vs. No. 8 Oklahoma vs. No. 9 Notre Dame

  • No. 2 Georgia vs. No. 7 Texas A&M vs. No. 10 Alabama

  • Winner of No. 3 Ohio State vs. No. 6 Mississippi vs. No. 11 Tulane

  • No. 4 Texas Tech vs. No. 5 Oregon State champion vs. No. 12 James Madison

Georgia’s quarterfinals are expected to be in New Orleans. In that case, the Bulldogs are expected to play either Texas A&M or Alabama. However, Georgia could also face Notre Dame or Miami, who are also favorites for a No. 10 seed. The No. 10 seed will be the final spot in the playoffs. Texas A&M is expected to remain the No. 7 seed.

One of the hardest seeds to predict is where the committee places Ohio State against Georgia Tech and Texas Tech. Ohio State could be a four seed or even a two seed, but we think they’ll be a three seed. In this scenario, Ohio State would be Georgia’s favorite to face in the semifinals.
