How to Stop Autoplaying Videos on Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Safari

Autoplay videos are everywhere on the internet these days. A few years ago, these videos used to be Flash videos, which could be easily stopped by simply disabling Flash on your browser. However, as the internet has moved to better technologies, such as HTML5 for videos, autoplaying videos have evolved with it.

Most of the time, these autoplay videos tend to be nothing more than annoying news announcements you don’t need, or worse, advertisements. There is an easy way to block this content on every PC browser, just follow the steps below.

Google Chrome
Disabling autoplay videos on Google Chrome is easy. How is this done.

  1. Launch Chrome browser and install the Disable HTML5 Autoplay extension by opening the linked page and clicking on it Add to Chrome.
  2. Now open any website (e.g. YouTube) and you will find that the video no longer plays automatically.

Follow the steps below to disable autoplay videos on Opera.

  4. type Media autoplay enabled next to search:.
  5. double click Media autoplay enabled Make the value become Wrong.

This will prevent the video from playing automatically on Firefox.
