Shelby will play in its first-ever state football finals. Glenville won it all in 2022 and 2023.
But don’t let it fool you. This will be one of the best championship matchups of the weekend.
Shelby enters the game with a 14-0 record, led by Ohio State Mr. Football runner-up Brayden DeVito, a do-it-all senior quarterback who is headed to Air Force.
DeVito ranks fourth all-time in OHSAA passing yards and eighth all-time in passing touchdowns, and that’s not even counting his 73 career rushing touchdowns. His top target is Brady Bowman (82-1607-24 this season). The Whippets also have West Virginia’s Carter Kessler leading their defense.

Glenville is 11-3, losing to three of the best large school teams in the state.
The Tarblooders, led by Ted Ginn Sr., won D-IV state championships in 2022 and 2023 but lost to Sandusky Perkins in the state semifinals a season ago. Glenville has also been a two-time state runner-up (2009, 2013).
The defense is the story for Glenville, with linebacker Sincere Johnson and linebacker Jameel Perez both playing for Ohio State. The Tarblooders also have at least four seniors committed to play in the MAC.
Kickoff for Division IV action is Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.
