If you’re in the market for a new car, it might be time to take action. Several factors contribute to price drops in January and February, which could result in significant savings.
“With fewer dealer visitors during the post-holiday period and remaining inventory from previous years needing immediate sale, manufacturers continue to increase promotional offers,” said Alan Gelfand, owner of German Car Warehouse.
Gelfand said based on what he’s seen in stores, the following vehicles are particularly reliable and have the biggest and most predictable price drops in January and February.
Toyota Camry
-
Starting price in 2026: $29,000
Gelfand said the Toyota Camry is one of the safest bets when looking for winter price cuts.
“The end of the year will lead to excess inventory at dealers because SUV buyers make up the majority of the market, which reduces demand for midsize sedans,” he said. “The Camry offers excellent mechanical reliability because it requires no constant maintenance, while its components remain strong with more than 200,000 miles of operation.”

Honda Accord
-
Starting price in 2026: $28,395
Like the Camry, Gelfand said the Honda Accord offers good service but tends to be discounted early in the year because it’s a midsize sedan.
“Maintenance of the Accord will result in excellent aging performance, while winter sales will reduce its purchase price, making it an excellent long-term ownership option,” he said.
The recently launched 2026 Honda Accord will debut on December 18, 2026, according to Honda.
Subaru Outback
-
Starting price in 2026: $34,995
“The Subaru Outback experienced its biggest price cuts in the first few months of the year as owners in mild-weather states didn’t need all-wheel-drive capability,” Gelfand said.
He said the Subaru is a reliable vehicle and will remain reliable as long as its owners adhere to regular maintenance. Therefore, take advantage of the discounts in January and February to buy a trustworthy SUV at a cheap price.
Mazda CX-5
-
Starting price in 2026: $29,090 USD
“Mazda dealers are better able to negotiate prices because their customers remain unenthusiastic about the brand, which results in minimal customer traffic,” Gelfand said. “The CX-5 demonstrates superior build quality as it requires less maintenance over its lifetime than other compact SUVs.”
Winter price drops make the CX-5 one of the safest compact SUVs, he said.
Toyota Corolla
-
Starting price in 2026: $22,725
It might not be the flashiest car on the market, but if you want a reliable discount sedan, the Toyota Corolla might be the right choice.
“The Corolla maintains its status as one of the most reliable cars I’ve ever seen because it requires only basic maintenance to continue running for many years,” Gelfand said. “If you’re looking for an affordable car that can last over 200,000 miles with just oil, brake and tire changes as your total service cost, then the Corolla is the perfect car for you.”
Lexus ES
-
Starting price in 2025: $43,435
“The recent holiday season has resulted in a significant decline in luxury sedan sales as customers have shifted interest toward purchasing SUVs and crossovers,” he said. “The ES benefits from Toyota’s engineering expertise, which creates fewer problems than many luxury rivals.”
He said the Lexus ES, like a luxury Camry, goes on sale this time of year because luxury buyers are looking for larger, more sophisticated vehicles.
Lexus says the 2026 Lexus ES is expected to debut in March.
