academy award winning actress halle berry Give a speech on Wednesday new york times She shocks the crowd at DealBook Summit by blasting California governor Gavin Newsome (Four).
At this point in my life, I have zero left to give,” Berry declared.
Berry, 59, focused his speech on expanding health care coverage for menopause care. She noted that a bill she supported that would have mandated certain menopause care in health care plans and expanded training for professionals on the topic has been defeated twice in California.
“Back in my great state of California, my own governor, Gavin Newsom, vetoed our menopause bill two years in a row,” Berry told the crowd. “But that’s okay because he’s not going to be governor forever and he’s neglecting women, who are half the population, by belittling us, and he probably shouldn’t be our next president either. Just saying.”
Some gasps could be heard in the crowd as the actress named Newsom. The California governor spoke at the same New York summit.
The bill Berry was referring to was AB 432, which was defeated for the second time in October. The bill was introduced by Congresswoman Rebecca Ball-Kahan.
A spokesman for Newsom echoed Berry’s comments, explaining that this specific bill had been rejected because it would increase health care costs.
“He vetoed the bill because, as written, it would inadvertently increase health care costs for millions of already stretched working women — something he is determined to avoid,” a Newsom spokesman said. Izzy Garden explain.
Garden added that Newsom is “confident” they can work to get the bill passed this year. Newsom’s term ends at the end of 2026.
“There’s still a lot to talk about and uncover and discover in 2025, especially if you’re a woman entering middle age and seriously thinking about your longevity, because in 2025, me, Halle Berry and women my age are simply devalued in this country,” Berry said Wednesday. “Our culture believes that at 59, I’m past my prime, and women my age are starting to become invisible in Hollywood, in the workplace and on social media.”
Halle Berry made the summit crowd gasp after she dissed Gavin Newsom for “demeaning” women.
