According to the Minnesota State Patrol, around 4:45 p.m., a man was driving an SUV northbound on Highway 71 while another man was driving a passenger van southbound on the highway. The two vehicles then collided head-on near 240 Street.

The accident resulted in five deaths and eight injuries. Two people suffered life-threatening injuries and six suffered non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Law enforcement identified the deceased as follows:

  • Martin Hanson, 67, was the driver of the SUV

  • Katherine Johnson, 73

  • Richard Johnson, 73

  • Lindsay Rosseau, 47

There were no passengers in the SUV.

Authorities have not yet revealed the identity of the 42-year-old man driving the bus or the extent of his injuries.
