NEW YORK (PIX11) – It’s the first year for New York City, which welcomed a new mayor on the first day of the new year. Mayor Zoran Mamdani was sworn in on Thursday.
From there, Mayor Mamdani became the city’s CEO and head of more than 40 city agencies, overseeing the largest city in the United States.

Democratic socialist Mamdani took over power from former Mayor Eric Adams and is committed to delivering on his campaign promises.
Some of his campaign ideas include taxes on the wealthy, free busing and free child care.
“Starting today, we will govern broadly and boldly. We may not always succeed, but we will never be accused of lacking the courage to try,” Mamdani told the cheering crowd. “For those who insist that the era of big government is over, hear me: City Hall will no longer hesitate to use its power to improve the lives of New Yorkers.”
According to public data, Mamdani is expected to earn an annual salary of $258,750 after becoming the new mayor.
