“You have to do extra work” – Jamal Musiala on learning from injuries

Musiala has been Bayern Munich’s attacking star in recent seasons. This season, that’s not the case. In last summer’s Club World Cup, he collided with Donnarumma, causing Musiala to fracture his fibula and fracture and dislocate his ankle. The attacking midfielder has missed most of the season as a result.

Musiala is now on the right path. He returned to the pitch for the first time in January and immediately provided an assist in a dominant win over RB Leipzig. He had eight goals and six assists in all competitions before reaching the DFB-Pokal final, but it hasn’t been easy for the Bayern star.

“I think coming back from a serious injury you have to do extra work,” Musiala told DFL. “Sometimes it’s nice not to talk about it because you already have all the questions in your head.”

Musiala is not the only Bayern player to be troubled by injuries this season. Canada international Alphonso Davies, one of Musiala’s closest friends on the team, has been dealing with recurring injuries this season. Davies has started just six Bundesliga games and faces a game that will prepare him for the World Cup.

“Certainly he’s had some serious injuries and some setbacks this year,” Musiala said. “I think it’s just trying to learn from a year like this and see what you can live with and see if there are mistakes or whatever.”

Despite being plagued by injuries, both Musiala and Bayern had a very successful year. Musiala returned to the field after a serious injury and contributed to a remarkable season for Bayern, helping Bayern score 89 points and easily win the Bundesliga title.

His year isn’t over yet, either. Bayern have a chance to add another domestic trophy when they face VfB Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal on Saturday. Afterwards, Musiala traveled to North America for the World Cup with Julian Nagelsmann and the German team.

“Right now, my focus is still on the German Cup,” Musiala said. “Then we’ll see what happens.”
