Xzayvier Brown’s 23 points lead Oklahoma over Ole Miss, 86-70 in SEC opener

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Xzayvier Brown scored 23 points and Tae Davis and Nijel Pack added 15 apiece as Oklahoma State beat Mississippi State 86-70 in its SEC opener on Saturday.

Brown shot 8 of 11 from the field (4 of 5 from 3-point range) for the Sooners (11-3, 1-0 in SEC). Oklahoma State has won its last five games and nine of its last 10 games.

The Rebels (8-6, 0-1) were held scoreless for more than seven and a half minutes after missing 12 consecutive field goals in the first half before Oklahoma went on a 12-2 run to take a 35-26 lead. However, the University of Mississippi fought back and trailed by only two points, 43-41, at halftime.

Mohammed Wague grabbed 11 of his 15 rebounds in the first half and finished with 10 points. Kuhl Atak added 14 points for Oklahoma.

The Sooners shot 52% (31 points on 60 field goals) while the Rebels shot 38% (23 points on 61 field goals).

Patton Pinkins scored a career-high 25 points to become the University of Mississippi’s scoring leader. Malik Dia added 17 points.
