Xbox’s Gears of War: E-Day and State of Decay 3 Reportedly Coming to PS5

A new report claims that two more upcoming first-party Microsoft games will be coming to PS5. Since adjusting its release strategy last year, the Xbox parent company has released a number of exclusive games on PlayStation in 2025, including Forza Horizon 5. The company will also reportedly bring Gears of War: E-Day and State of Decay 3 to PS5. The two upcoming games don’t have release dates yet, but the next Gears of War is set to release in 2026.

“Gears of War: E-Day” and “State of Decay 3” are coming to PS5

Gears of War: E-Day will be coming to PS5 in addition to Xbox Series S/X and PC versions, according to MP1st, which cited information from the resume of a game designer who is said to be developing the game. It’s unclear whether the next mainline Gears of War game will release simultaneously on PS5 or after its initial launch on Xbox and PC, like Indiana Jones and the Big Circle.

According to reports, in addition to “Gears of War: E-Day”, “State of Decay 3” currently under development by Undead Labs will also be launched on PS5. The report also cites the resume of a developer said to work at Undead Labs, which reveals that PS5 is a supported platform for the game, along with PC and Xbox.

There is currently no timetable for when these two Xbox games will be released on PS5. More details about the PlayStation version of the game should be announced once the release date is confirmed.

Gears of War: E-Day was announced at the Xbox Game Show in 2024, with an in-engine announcement trailer. The game is set during Emergence Day 14 years before the original Gears of War.

State of Decay 3, on the other hand, was announced at Xbox Game Show 2020 and received a new trailer at last year’s event. Both games are expected to be released in 2026.

Xbox Games on PS5 in 2025

However, Gears of War: E-Day is not the first Gears of War game to launch on PS5. In May of this year, Microsoft announced that the remastered version of the first game, Gears of War: Reloaded, would be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X on August 26, 2025. The remaster features enhanced graphics and gameplay improvements and is available for wishlisting on the Xbox and PlayStation storefronts and on Steam.

“Gears of War: Reloaded” will become one of a growing number of Xbox exclusive games on PS5. This year alone, Microsoft has released first-party games such as Indiana Jones and the Circle, Doom: Dark Ages and Forza Horizon 5 on Sony consoles. While Forza and Raiders of the Lost Ark were delayed on PS5, the new Doom game is launching on the platform alongside the Xbox and PC versions. Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds 2 will be released in October on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. After being released on PC and Xbox last year, Senua’s Legend: Hellblade 2 will also be released on PS5 in August.

Microsoft’s strategy of releasing first-party games on PlayStation also appears to be paying off encouraging results. Data recently released by market research company Alinea Analytics shows that “Forza Horizon 5” is the best-selling game on PS5 in 2025, with sales of more than 3 million copies on Sony consoles.
