The World Baseball Classic is back, with some of the best players in the world representing their country instead of a Major League Baseball team, with a sense of national pride.

The most recent 2023 WBC lived up to its name, with Japan defeating the United States in an e-championship match in Miami to claim the trophy for the third time in five classics.

Led by Shohei Ohtani, Japan is the clear favorite to win the 2026 World Cup. After finishing first or third in every WBC contest so far, the Japanese knows what it takes to succeed in this kind of competition.

Team USA will be strong, though, with Aaron Judge, Kyle Schwarber and Paul Skenes leading a talented team under head coach Mark DeRosa and trying to add another trophy after winning in 2017. The only country to win the WBC title was the Dominican Republic in 2013, and this year’s U.S. team is again behind the likes of Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Juan Soto, Julio Rodriguez, Manny and others.
