Woman Recovering From Childbirth Killed by Her Husband in an Alabama Hospital Murder-Suicide

Authorities in Alabama are investigating a murder-suicide at a medical center involving a married couple who had just welcomed their first child.

Homewood Police Department confirms US Weekly Investigation into brutal killing Precious Alicia Jana Johnson continue.

Johnson, 24, is a patient at Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital Women’s Medical Center and is recovering from childbirth.

Johnson was shot multiple times by her husband at the hospital on Sunday, March 1. Kinas William Terry Jr., the police said.

Terry, 19, later died by suicide, leaving their newborn orphan, according to investigators.

Police learned the couple had not been married long and Johnson had recently given birth to their first child.

Authorities have not provided any details about what may have led to the murder-suicide.

Investigators said the violence occurred Sunday night while Terry was visiting his wife at Brookwood Baptist Health Hospital.

It’s unclear whether the hospital has metal detectors, and now local officials are revisiting security at the hospital.

Danny HowardThe president and CEO of the Alabama Hospital Association told WVTM that hospitals are committed to protecting patients, visitors and staff while providing care. “There are places in the world where we should feel safe – churches, hospitals and homes. Unfortunately, things happen and we don’t feel safe anymore.”

Howard told Station Hospital to update its safety plan every two years and participate in regular emergency preparedness drills with public health officials.

“We want to reassure the public that our hospitals and health care providers consider safety as important as providing quality health care,” she said.

In Alabama, hospitals are not required to hire security guards. However, Howard said most facilities have safety measures in place.

Some hospitals use metal detectors and additional screening procedures, depending on the facility.

Howard said the association will soon re-evaluate the statewide hospital safety plan to determine whether improvements are necessary.

No one else was injured in Sunday’s tragic incident.
