Prosecutors say Moore went to the victim’s home after being fired and threatened to harm himself
Sherrone Moore was arraigned Friday, Dec. 12, on three criminal charges, including felony home invasion, two days after he was fired as head coach of the Michigan State football team.
Moore, wearing a white jail uniform, appeared virtually in District Court 14A1 of the Washtenaw County Jail. The former coach remained silent for much of the arraignment except to answer basic questions from the judge.
Moore was charged with a felony count of third-degree burglary and a misdemeanor count of stalking and entering without a warrant.
The University of Michigan fired Moore for cause on Wednesday, Dec. 10, saying there was evidence that he had an “inappropriate relationship with a staff member.”

In a press release announcing the charges, prosecutors claimed Moore “allegedly unlawfully entered the residence of the victim with whom Mr. Moore had a dating relationship.”
During the arraignment, Assistant Prosecutor Kati Rezmierski further outlined the allegations against Moore, claiming that he and the victim had been in a relationship for several years before she broke up with him on Monday, December 8.
“Our victim broke up with the defendant early Monday morning,” Rezmierski said.
After the breakup, Moore allegedly sent the victim numerous text messages and made “unwanted” phone calls to her, prosecutors said.
“Eventually she reported to the University of Michigan, where she cooperated in some form with the investigation,” Rezmierski said. “It is known that the defendant was fired sometime on Wednesday afternoon.”
Prosecutors further allege that shortly after, Moore drove to the victim’s apartment and broke in, then allegedly grabbed a butter knife and threatened to harm himself.
“You have my blood on your hands,” Moore allegedly said, according to Rezmierski.
The judge ultimately granted Moore a $25,000 cash bond but ordered the former coach not to contact the victim, who was not named during the hearing, and said he could only be released with a GPS tether.
Moore will appear in court in person on January 22.
