EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 54-year-old woman was arrested after evading arrest while driving under the influence in East El Paso over the weekend, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Araceli Diaz, 54, was charged with evading arrest/detention with a vehicle and driving while intoxicated. She is being held at the El Paso County Detention Facility on a total bond of $12,500.

On Saturday, February 28, at approximately 11 p.m., officers received a report of a possibly intoxicated driver traveling west on Rojas Drive toward Joe Battle Boulevard.
Deputies found the vehicle matching the description and saw the driver, later identified as Diaz, “committing multiple traffic violations,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.
In the video provided by EPCSO, you can see the vehicle Diaz was driving careening over the curb. The officer turned on his lights and signaled Diaz to stop, but the vehicle continued driving.
At the red-light intersection, three officers got out of their vehicles and walked toward Diaz’s car. When the light turned green, Diaz drove off and the officers quickly returned to their cars.
The video cuts to Diaz stopping at another red light and a deputy is heard telling her, “Open the door.” The deputy closest to the driver’s side door of the vehicle appears to tap on the window with an object.
Another officer told him to “be careful” and then broke the window. Diaz can be heard saying, “Oh my God.” An officer tells Diaz to “get out,” to which Diaz replies: “Why?”
An officer is again heard telling Diaz to “get out of the car,” and Diaz again asks, “Why?” An officer unlocks the car from inside and two officers take Diaz to the ground and handcuff her. During the interaction, Diaz can be heard saying: “Oh my God” and “Really?”
The final shot of the video shows two officers handcuffing Diaz.
After investigation, deputies determined that Diaz was intoxicated while operating a motor vehicle on a public road.
“Drunk driving endangers not just the driver, but every family on the road. One decision can have life-changing consequences,” said El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. “We will continue to act quickly to remove affected drivers from our streets and keep our communities safe.”
