About 7 inches of heavy snow and strong winds are expected to hit several central New York counties this weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.
Most of the snowfall is expected to occur in southern and eastern Lake Ontario, forecasters said. A winter storm warning is in effect Friday morning through Saturday afternoon.
While light snow is expected in parts of Western New York on Friday, some areas are expected to see little snow accumulation, while other areas are expected to see up to 7 inches of snow.
The change could feel especially alarming as New York has experienced spring-like weather since last weekend, with highs reaching into the mid-70s across upstate New York, according to weather service data.
Forecasters said temperatures are expected to return to the 30s and 40s in Western and Central New York through at least Saturday, with a brief warming on Sunday before dipping into the 20s again next week. Highest points will vary depending on location.
