The Greenville Lions have moved up their basketball and football games scheduled for Friday by a day. They played four varsity basketball and football games Thursday night at home against Prosper’s Walnut Grove before the weather worsened.

The Greenville women’s Lions and Lions basketball teams, scheduled to play Tuesday at home against Sherman, have had their games postponed to Wednesday night due to weather conditions. The Lady Lions will honor their seniors when they face Sherman on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity boys game.
Sherman’s Lady Bearcats posted a 1-8 record in district basketball play, recording their lone win over Greenville, 42-21, on Jan. 3 in Sherman.
The Sherman’s Bearcats are 1-6 in district boys basketball play, with their lone victory coming on Dec. 23, a 49-31 victory over Greenville.
Prosper Walnut Grove, ranked No. 9 in the state, stayed undefeated with an 80-16 win over the Lady Lions in District 9-5A girls basketball action Thursday.

The Lady Wildcats improved to 25-5 on the season and 9-0 in the region.
The Lady Lions are still looking for their first district win at 0-9.
Finley Chastain led the Victors with 30 points and was all scorer.
The Prosper Walnut Grove basketball team defeated the Greenville Lions 67-45 in District 9-5A basketball action on Thursday.
Walnut Grove hit 14 3-pointers to help the Wildcats improve to 18-7 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.
The Lions fell to 8-17 overall and 0-7 in the conference.
Conlin Anderson scored 15 points for the Wildcats, and TJ Spann and Monta Ellis Jr. both scored 14 points.
Brendon Noel led the Lions with nine points. Pierre Dunn added seven.

Walnut Grove beat the Lady Lions 9-0 in the District 9-5A girls soccer game and defeated the Lions 3-0 in the district boys soccer game.
Kylee Schumacher got the Walnut Grove girls off to a fast start with two goals in the first two minutes.
Gracie Miller, Haley Ivey, Willa Carlson, Avalon Sitz and Ella Heischman also scored as Walnut Grove led 7-0 at halftime.
Sitz scored her second goal to make it 8-0, and Katie Simms scored the Wildcats’ final goal.
Walnut Grove remains undefeated at 8-0-1 and 2-0 in District 9-5A play. The Lady Wildcats won their first district game with a 15-0 victory over Denison.
The Lady Lions fell to 2-7 on the season and 0-2 in regional play. They lost 9-0 to Melissa in the district opener.

Walnut Grove’s players improved to 13-0 on the season and 2-0 in district play with the win over the Lions.

Greenville goalie Brandon Villazana made some saves and the Lions held Walnut Grove to five fewer goals than the Wildcats did in their 8-0 victory over Denison in the region opener.

Nearly every other local high school basketball team has moved district games up a day to Thursday, with weather potentially affecting Tuesday’s scheduled games.
