Will you be watching Lions vs. Vikings on Christmas?

The Detroit Lions aren’t completely dead yet. If the improbable outcome happens where they win their remaining two games (vs. Vikings, vs. Bears) and the Green Bay Packers lose (vs. Vikings, vs. 49ers), then the Lions will make the playoffs.

But after Sunday’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Lions fans were left devastated. Most people understand that these low odds are probably not worth getting their hopes up, and others don’t even want to see this team in the playoffs because of how low they currently are.

Regardless, the Lions still have two games to play. This is their chance to grow, compete and show pride in their work. For Lions fans, what they can take away from the last two games is subjective.

Since this week’s game falls on Christmas, I wouldn’t be surprised if some fans decide to call it quits. So today’s question of the day is:

Will you be watching the Lions vs. Vikings game on Christmas Day?

My answer: Well, obviously I have to do that. But if I wasn’t in the game professionally, I honestly would have a hard time deciding whether to watch this game. First of all, I don’t like watching the NFL on Christmas and I boycotted it last year. I think this is unnecessarily greedy since this holiday season there is already a professional sports league trying to “own” it.

On a different level, I think this inconveniences thousands of people on this country’s most popular holiday. I know few people who sympathize with the players who make millions of dollars playing during the Christmas period while millions of working class people have to do the same thing. But there are tons of others involved in the NFL process who are far from being paid well and must now be forced to leave their families and loved ones behind…. What? Could the three NFL midterm games on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET provide just as much fun?

I admit, however, that even if I had moral objections to this game taking place on Christmas Day, I would always definitely watch it anyway. No matter how slim the hope of making the playoffs is, if there is one anything Over the past 25 years or so, I’ve watched basically every Lions game even without a phone. I’m not going to stop now just because my 8-7 football team didn’t live up to preseason expectations.

What are your thoughts on watching the Lions on Christmas Day? Do you watch TV? Or will the team’s failure – combined with your holiday obligations – keep you away from TV? Share your answers in the comments section.
