It’s easy to get distracted during college football this time of year. Some teams have bowl games coming up and others are gearing up for the College Football Playoff, but everyone is gearing up for the holidays and the festive events and traditions that come with them.

The Oregon Ducks will face the same challenges as any other team — it’s just that they have the added pressure of knowing that both of their coordinators will be leaving immediately after the season. Will Stein, who runs the Ducks’ offense, accepted the job as the Kentucky Wildcats’ next head coach, and even though he vowed to stay with the team through the playoffs, he’s still taking one kick in and one kick out.

He still has obligations to the Wildcats, such as building a team, progress on that front earlier today when Tony Washington Jr. was hired as defensive ends and outside linebackers coach. Washington is a former Oregon State player who spent time with the Ducks.

The well-traveled coach comes from Ohio State, where he served as a defensive line assistant. Washington Jr. also attended many other top schools, including Oregon State, so he gained knowledge from some of the best and brightest coaches in the country.

Stein has done an excellent job of assembling a group of young, inexperienced players at key skill positions for the Ducks, and he and his staff at Kentucky are off to a great start. It’s going to hurt to lose him at the end of the playoffs, but I’m sure everyone in the building will be happy and proud that he earned the job.
