PhiladelphiaForecast models remain focused on the potential impact of a coastal storm that could bring more snow to the Philadelphia area.

what we know

Forecasters say precipitation is possible Sunday into Monday night, when temperatures will drop into the 30s.

Forecasters are monitoring “a strong low pressure system with the potential to develop into a major nor’easter along the East Coast by Sunday,” Fox Weather said.

While forecast models are still unsure of the storm’s exact path and timing, FOX 29’s Sue Serio said the coastal low will likely crawl up the East Coast by Sunday morning and move into our area by lunchtime.

The offshore low is expected to mix with colder temperatures in the 30s, which could determine whether the Philadelphia area sees mostly snow, mainly rain, or a mix of the two.

“Current guidance indicates the storm could ‘bomb’ offshore, bringing the threat of heavy snow, coastal flooding and high winds to major metropolitan areas from the mid-Atlantic to southern and eastern New England,” Fox Weather wrote.

Coastal storms will continue throughout the night and into Monday morning, creating potentially hazardous commutes.

what’s next

Mild, dreary weather will help melt three weeks of snow ahead of potential storms on Sunday.

Forecasters expect temperatures to remain in the 40s through Friday, with mostly cloudy skies and a chance of rain.

Mild temperatures will end with sunshine on Saturday, with highs expected to reach the mid-50s before falling back into the mid-30s on Sunday and over the next few days.
