Explicit text messages posted on Monday San Antonio Express-News Seems to show rep. Tony Gonzalez (R-Texas) repeatedly solicited nude photos and sex from his then-campaign director in 2020, years before admitting he had an affair in 2024 with a congressional staffer who later committed suicide.
The newspaper obtained previously unreported exchanges containing hundreds of messages. The messages reported by the newspaper were from when Gonzalez first became a Republican candidate in June 2020 and allegedly show him escalating a late-night conversation with his campaign’s political director into explicit sexual requests over several days.
Within hours of initially discussing her dating life and praising her as a “smart girl,” alleged text messages show Gonzalez asking her what she wore to bed, what kind of underwear she wore and asking for nude photos. reported news sun expresswent on to describe how he wanted to have sex with her and have her “squeeze my balls.”
“I know what I want and I won’t stop until I get it,” one message reportedly read.
When the campaign director repeatedly denied his request, he responded, “47 denials is my limit,” the report said. The text messages would then include multiple requests for photos over the next few days.
Despite those exchanges, the unnamed aide told the newspaper that no physical relationship occurred and the two “didn’t even touch.”
The revelations add to growing scrutiny of Gonzalez’s behavior following another affair in 2024 with a 35-year-old congressional aide Regina Santos AvilesHe publicly admitted it was “a mistake” and a “bad judgment.” Santos-Aviles set herself on fire in September 2025 after her husband discovered the information.
Revelations related to the relationship prompted a backlash from House Republican leaders and led Gonzalez to abandon his bid for a fourth term. He is scheduled to step down in January.
The former campaign director who shared these text messages with the campaign express news said she chose to come forward after learning of Santos-Avilez’s death in 2025.
“He obviously pursued, pursued, pursued her the same way he pursued me,” she said. “I never took him seriously…it wasn’t until this poor girl died that I thought, ‘No, this guy is pure evil.'”
“This behavior needs to stop,” she added.
