Widow sues HOA after neighbor allegedly kills Las Vegas pastor

LAS VEGAS (KUALA LUMPUR) – The widow of a pastor who was killed as tensions with neighbors escalated is suing the homeowners association and property management company two years after her husband’s death.

Joe Junio, 38, faces a charge of open murder with a deadly weapon in the Dec. 29, 2023, death of 46-year-old Nick Davi. The shooting happened inside the courthouse in the Alliant neighborhood of North Las Vegas.

According to a wrongful death lawsuit filed in 2024, Nick Davi’s wife, Sarah Davi, was injured in the shooting. David’s latest lawsuit was filed against Aliante and FirstService courts in Nevada, the filing said.

The police report states that Junior and the Davies were neighbors and that Junior displayed “escalating threatening behavior” after the family reported Junior to the HOA for code violations related to chickens and dogs in the weeks before the shooting.

On the day of the shooting, the family was driving to a sleepover when they saw Junior driving by and looking at them. Junior parked next to them and rolled down his window. At this point, one of the victim’s children began recording on her cellphone, documents state.

A family member asked Junior, “Why don’t you just leave us alone? We’ve had enough.” Junior continued to stare at the family, and Nick David asked, “What’s wrong with us?” and took a few steps toward the car.

Junior then got out of his car and began shooting at the family, hitting Nick David and Sarah David, police said. One of the victims struggled with Junior for a gun and she fled back to her apartment.

According to David’s most recent lawsuit, she or her husband had complained to management and Junior “including concerns about ongoing association disputes and escalating animosity.”

Video shown to the grand jury showed Junior pulling into the driveway, talking to Nick David, then getting out and shooting him. One of David’s kids was recording. (Klass)

The lawsuit alleges that the homeowners association and property management company failed to mitigate neighborhood problems and were “aware that prior incidents, disputes and/or communications involving Jo indicated or should have indicated that she posed an unreasonable risk of harm to her neighbors.”

Junior’s trial is scheduled to begin in May. The wrongful death lawsuit is scheduled for trial in July. As of Friday, a court date for the newly filed lawsuit had not yet been set.

Junior remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center. David is the pastor of Grace Point Church in North Las Vegas. In 2005, he left the South after Hurricane Katrina and moved to North Las Vegas, documents say.
