Madi Westbeld has carved out a legitimate role as a rookie with the Chicago Sky.

She won’t get a chance to participate in season two.

According to the WNBA’s official trade log, Westbeld was waived on Monday.

If she clears waivers without being claimed, she will become a free agent and able to sign with any team in the league.

Westbeld was a second-round selection by the Sky out of Notre Dame (16th overall) in the 2025 WNBA draft.

As a rookie, she averaged 4.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game, shooting 39.5% from three-point range and 87.5% from the free throw line.

Why is Sky getting rid of Maddie Westbeld?

The Sky are shuffling their entire roster, and Westbeld is one of the casualties.

Due to the limited number of spots, it is difficult for players selected outside the first round to stay in the WNBA, and the Sky clearly chose to give new players some opportunities.

Westbeld, who is 6-foot-3 with a shooting touch, could certainly make another appearance in the WNBA, but not now in Chicago.
