Why did Jaguars’ Grant Udinski withdraw from Browns head coach search?

Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski is no longer in consideration for the Cleveland Browns head coaching job.

So why did Udinski decide not to take over with the Browns after going through the initial interview process?

Well, there are probably a lot of factors at play, but two in particular seem to stand out.

First, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Udinski received a raise during the 2026 season in order to stay in Jacksonville.

The Jaguars also gave Udinski the flexibility to remain in the Buffalo Bills’ head coaching vacancy.

Secondly, maybe this isn’t the right fit for Udinski. Across the NFL landscape, Udinski is viewed as an up-and-coming future head coach. It’s likely that the need for Udinski will only increase as time goes on, meaning he’ll need to consider more options.

We see current Bears head coach Ben Johnson take a similar approach in 2024. Instead of taking the head coaching job, he went on to serve as coordinator with the Lions for one season before joining the Bears.

Whatever the reason, the Jaguars would be happy to have Udinsi play another season. He was a big part of the offense’s success last season.
