White scores 19 as No. 15 Virginia rallies past Florida State 61-58 to win 5th straight

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Jacari White scored 19 points off the bench, including a dunk with 1:12 left, to help No. 15 Virginia go on an 11-0 run to beat Florida State 61-58 on Tuesday night.

White was 5 of 9 from 3-point range as the Orlando native returned to the Sunshine State to help the Cavaliers (21-3, 10-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) extend their winning streak to five games. He played 21 minutes and scored more points than he has in any game in the ACC this season.

Raj Jones had 21 points and a season-high 13 rebounds for Florida State (11-13, 3-7), which won its third straight game. Robert McCray V finished with 20 points.

Thijs De Ridder’s short jumper gave Virginia a 61-58 lead with 25 seconds left. Jones and McCray each missed a 3-pointer that would have tied the game, and the Seminoles were held scoreless for the final 4 minutes and 54 seconds.

DeRidder scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds to help Virginia beat Florida State 47-37.

Led by White, Virginia’s reserves defeated Florida State’s reserves 32-10.

Although the Cavaliers improved late in the game, neither team shot the ball well. Virginia shot 38 percent overall and 10 of 33 (30 percent) from 3-point range but won for the 10th time in 11 games.

Florida State led 54-45 with 8:22 left in the game, but then went cold. The Seminoles shot 29 percent from the field and 6 of 33 (18 percent) from 3-point range.
