While the bulk of the snowfall in the Burlington area will come on Sunday night, January 25, 2026, we first have to endure the extreme cold expected on Saturday, January 24, said meteorologist Adrianna Kremer.
“If you can, try to avoid going outdoors,” Kramer said.
On Saturday, the high temperature in Vermont will reach 0 degrees, with wind chills reaching 0 to -10 degrees and even -15 degrees.
According to a National Weather Service document, the most snowfall in Burlington in a single weather event between January 2 and January 3, 2010 was 33.1 inches.

Here’s the weather schedule for the upcoming winter storm from the National Weather Service.
Kramer said snow will fall first in Vermont on Sunday afternoon, followed by the heaviest snowfall on Sunday night. It should last overnight into Monday morning and afternoon.
The maximum temperature on Sunday will reach 10 to 12 degrees.

How much snow will it snow in Vermont?
Maps show the weekend storm is expected to blanket Vermont with significant amounts of snow.
Meteorologists say 7 to 10 inches of snow will fall in Vermont, with more snow falling further south.
“The snow looks very fluffy, so it will help mitigate the potential for power outages,” Kramer said.
Such heavy snowfall is expected to cause problems for people traveling, especially on January 26, 2026, as it may make roads slippery and reduce road visibility.
