“Pod Save America” host Jon Favreau blasted Vice President J.D. Vance on Thursday morning for his politically charged response to the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old woman by ICE agents in Minneapolis on Wednesday.
Trump officials collectively accused the woman of committing domestic terrorism by trying to run over the ICE agent who shot her. Others, including multiple Minnesota officials and many who saw video of the incident online, called on ICE agents to be held accountable for their use of force and violent measures.
Vance used video of the woman’s car coming into contact with an ICE agent as an opportunity to make a statement against Democrats.
“Every congressional Democrat and every Democrat running for president should be asked a simple question: Do you think this police officer was wrong to defend his life against a deranged leftist who was trying to run him over?” the vice president wrote on
Favreau was quick to point out that Vance used “unhinged leftists” to describe the victim, who was identified as U.S. citizen Renee Nicole Goode. “What the hell is wrong with you?” the former speechwriter asked in a quoted tweet reply to Vance’s original post.
“You don’t know who this woman is. You don’t know what she believes,” he continued. “You have no idea what the actual investigation will show. A 37-year-old American citizen was killed. Her 6-year-old son was orphaned. Her family and friends are going through the worst time of their lives. And all you can do is call her a ‘crazy leftist’? Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you?”
At a news conference shortly after Wednesday’s incident, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey told ICE agents to “get out of the city.” “We don’t want you here,” he said. “You claim that the reason you came to the city was to create some kind of safety and yet you are doing the exact opposite.”
“They are tearing families apart, causing chaos in the streets, and in this case, they are actually killing people,” Frey added. “This was a reckless use of power by an agent that resulted in someone dying, someone being killed.”
