Liam Rogniel is facing increasing pressure at Chelsea and on the Outgoing Cobham podcast, they asked Simon Johnson for his thoughts on how the new manager can deal with it.

“It struck me that the longer he was there, the worse it got,” Johnson said.

“Well, if you remember, he actually had two weeks free… He gave the players the day off and he had extra time with his players. But it didn’t work out.

“He talked on Saturday about how he hadn’t had pre-season. The thing is, you’re at Chelsea… they’re used to the manager coming in mid-season and winning something… the ‘I haven’t had pre-season’ high ball… you should be good enough to come in and make a positive difference.

“I feel a little sorry for him sometimes. He does seem to be struggling.”

Rosenier must take advantage of international break

This is the problem with a head coach’s classic fallback “I didn’t have enough time to train/I didn’t play preseason”. It’s a valid excuse, but once you’ve gone through preseason or practice time, you can’t reuse it.

Ronnie Orr now has an international break. Hopefully we’ll look better in two weeks.

The podcast also reports on Wesley Fofana, who Simon Johnson says does not appear to have a future at Chelsea at the moment.

Joao Pedro enjoyed a stellar first season at Chelsea but has failed to score in his last four seasons and his inconsistent form has proven problematic.
