Westbound Highway 50 closed overnight in Sacramento

(FOX40.COM) – All westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 50 will be closed overnight to install signs, state officials announced.

The California Department of Transportation said Wednesday that contractors will install an elevated sign on the entire westbound side of the highway early Thursday morning, Jan. 12.

Construction will begin at 11 p.m. Wednesday and continue until 5 a.m. along westbound Highway 50 between 26th Street and 15th Street.

There will be a complete closure on the westbound side of Highway 50 at 26th Street from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. Caltrans encourages drivers to use W Street as an alternative route.

The department said in a news release that contractors will install an overhead sign on Highway 50 between 18th and 19th streets, as well as other signs along the highway. Due to safety concerns, crews will implement traffic disruptions and close the connector between State Highway 99 northbound and State Highway 50 westbound during construction.

“Caltrans reminds drivers to use alternative routes, prepare for delays, remain alert when traveling through work zones and pay close attention to advance warning signs,” the department said. “We also encourage motorists to plan and allow extra time for travel.”

The work being done is part of the Fix50 project, a $511.1 million effort to repair the highway and add lanes between the US 50/Interstate 5 overpass and the US 50/Watt Avenue overpass.
