We’re finally in the men’s hockey playoffs.
The second-tier competition begins on Monday with preliminary rounds. The DI bracket will begin on Friday, March 6 with the quarter-finals. With the regular season over, we have some bragging rights to dole out.

Here are the 10 players vying for Longplex regular-season MVP honors — one in each of the top five seedings in both divisions. It’s up to the fans to decide who they think should be the MVP.

Evan Agron, RMTME
Evan Agron (14), RMT, Portsmouth vs. RMT, Men’s Hockey, January 3, 2026
Rogers/Middletown/Tiverton/Mt. Hope/East Providence Co-op doubled its win total this season to earn the No. 4 seed in D-II. Agron’s offense has made huge strides this season, with Agron leading the team with 16 goals and 21 assists. The senior ranks second in conference scoring.

Tyler Almeida, Lincoln

Lincoln earned the No. 2 seed in the D-II tournament. Almeida leads the forward line with 11 goals and 19 assists. His 30 points in the winter ranked fifth in the league this season.
Pierce Andrian, Moses Brown

The young forward leads Moses Brown in points this winter (9G, 11A). The Quakers have been one of DI’s top teams and are seeking their first championship since the 2011-12 season.
Michael Bassett “Pilgrim”
Michael Bessette, Pilgrim Boys Lacrosse
Bessette has hit the net in every game this season. He has a 1.83 goals against average and a 93% save percentage in an impressive 958 minutes. The veteran netminder has certainly been a stabilizing force for a team ranked fourth in DI this winter.

Austen Dufresne, East Greenwich/Tollbooth Men’s Lacrosse
The defending D-II champions are back in contention for another title. Dufresne scored 14 goals in the regular season, laying the foundation for the team’s balanced scoring attack.
Zach Fontenot, Hendricken

Hendricken’s skaters get a lot of attention, so how about some appreciation for its goaltender? Fontenot took over as the Eagles’ netminder this season and has done a great job. The teenager has a goals against average of 0.86 and a save percentage of 95% in 15 games.
Will Gaffney, Prout
William Gaffney, Prout Boys Hockey
Many of Prout’s scores came from last year’s runner-up team. But Gaffney returned and took his place in the Crusaders’ forward line with 17 goals and 5 assists.

Sean Gaudreau, LaSalle
Hendricken guard Sebastian Nott spat at La Salle players Sean Gaudreau and Tucker Corberry during the first quarter.
Gaudreau ranks fifth in points and goals (14) in DI competitions. The Rams were the only in-state team to defeat Hendricken this season, with the junior scoring a goal in the victory.
Ben Hum, Portsmouth
Ben Humm, goaltender for the Portsmouth men’s hockey team.
Portsmouth have had consistent goaltending over the past few years. Humm continued that trend in his first season as a starter. The sophomore has allowed just 18 goals this season and has a save percentage of 94%.
Alex Pickering, Blackstone Valley School
Alex Pickering, BVS hockey player
Pickering scored 18 goals this winter, helping the Knights earn the fifth seed in D-II. He also dished out six assists in 16 games.
