Victims in quadruple fatal crash in Madera County aged 13, 15, 15 and 25

A single-vehicle accident in Madera County early Sunday killed four people, ranging in age from 13 to 25, authorities said Monday.

Madera County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a call around 1:10 a.m. reporting several people breaking into vehicles near El Vado Drive and 18 1/2 Avenue. When deputies arrived, they found a vehicle matching the description provided by the caller.

Authorities said the driver fled quickly. The vehicle then lost control and crashed near Highway 99 and 17th Avenue.

Four passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. Officials said they were 13, 15, 15 and 25 years old. An 18-year-old passenger was flown to hospital in critical condition on Monday.

None of the five people have been identified. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office is handling identification efforts.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal crash, while the Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the reported vehicle theft.
