USWNT midfielder Rose Lavelle voted U.S. Soccer Player of the Year

Jan. 16 (UPI) — Gotham FC and U.S. Women’s National Team midfielder Rose Lavelle has been named the 2025 U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year, U.S. Soccer announced on Friday.

Lavelle, 30, helped Gotham FC win the NWSL’s second league title in three years in 2025. She had five goals and two assists in the Bats’ final nine regular-season games.

She also scored the decisive goal in the Bats’ NWSL Championship victory over the Washington Spirit. Lavelle earned NWSL Championship MVP honors for her efforts.

Lavelle is the only player to score in a World Cup final and two NWSL tournaments.

“When I look back on this past year, I feel like it’s a testament to the support system I have, including my family, Gotham’s medical staff, the national team, all of my teammates, coaches and friends,” Lavelle said in a release.

“I simply wouldn’t have been able to receive this award without all the support I’ve received throughout the year, just to get back on the field. So, this award is definitely one that I share with all the people that I’ve been lucky enough to support me through.”

Lavelle’s Gotham FC teammate, defender Lilly Reale, won the 2025 U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year honor.
