It’s a historic start to the 2026 season for the USC baseball team. The Trojans finally suffered their first loss over the weekend, but that came after a 19-game winning streak to start the year.
Initially, despite USC’s hot start, it didn’t get much respect in national polls. Eventually, however, that appears to be changing.

USC is a consensus top 13 team in the country in this week’s rankings. On Monday, the Trojans were ranked No. 10 by Perfect Game, No. 11 by USA Today and No. 13 by D1Baseball and Baseball America.
USC’s strength this year is its starting pitching. Mason Edwards and Grant Govier were once again named Big Ten Pitchers of the Week on Monday, combining to form the nation’s top pitching duo in the first month of the season.
Meanwhile, on the other side of town, rival UCLA remains the No. 1 team in the country. The two Los Angeles schools are preparing for a massive showdown in Westwood in a few weeks.
First, however, USC must focus on five games this week. The Trojans will host San Diego State on Tuesday night and Cal State Bakersfield on Wednesday night before resuming Big Ten play next weekend with a three-game series against Washington at Dedo Field.
