U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday called on Kyiv to be more responsive in reaching a peace deal to end the war with Russia.
Asked about talks that will continue this weekend in Miami, Florida, Trump said they were close to a solution, “but I hope Ukraine will act quickly.”
“You know, every time they take too much time, Russia changes its mind,” he added, claiming “27,000 soldiers were killed last month.”
In addition to the U.S.-Russian talks, there will be further meetings between the United States and Ukraine over the weekend.
According to Ukraine’s Interfax news agency, Ukrainian President Zelensky said that Ukrainian negotiators have traveled to the United States. “Our team will arrive in the United States on Friday and Saturday.”
U.S. media reported that representatives from Moscow and the U.S. government planned to hold a meeting in Miami.
News websites Politico and Axios reported that a peace plan recently developed by Ukraine, European countries and the United States in Berlin would also be discussed, citing people familiar with the matter and an unnamed White House official.
No meeting is currently expected between U.S., Russian and Ukrainian representatives.
