UFC Hall of Famer: ‘Alexander Volkanovski is the greatest featherweight of all time’

Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovksi put in a dominant performance in his UFC 325 title rematch with Diego Lopes on Saturday. With this victory, “The Great” tied former two-time featherweight champion Jose Aldo for the most title fights in UFC featherweight history.

When debating who is the greatest featherweight of all time, it always comes down to Volkanovski or Aldo. Max Holloway got the mention, but Volkanovski outlasted the Hawaiian to take three wins. Former two-division champion and UFC commentator Daniel Cormier believes Volkanovski has surpassed Aldo at featherweight. Volkanovski’s one-sided victory over “Junior” only strengthened this claim.

“I’m telling you, he (Volkanovski) is the greatest featherweight of all time,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “I know we love Jose Aldo. I know we love Max Holloway, but he just won his eighth UFC featherweight title fight. Four of those wins were against Holloway and Aldo, the other two guys who are considered the greatest featherweight champions of all time.”

“He’s the best in the world, man. He’s as good as they come. The guy is so good, I really don’t think he’s going to slow down anytime soon. He’s so committed,” Cormier continued.

Volkanovski defeated Holloway via unanimous decision at UFC 245 in December 2019 to capture the 145-pound title for the first time. He retains the title until UFC 298 in February 2024. In his decade-long UFC career, he only lost to one featherweight contender, Ilia Topuria.
