UECL | Fiorentina 2-1 Dynamo Kyiv: Gudmndsson secures first win in 10

Fiorentina put their Serie A misfortune behind them with a 2-1 win at home to Dynamo Kyiv on Thursday night and recorded their third La Liga win of the season: goals from Moise Kean, Mykola Mykhaylenko and Albert Gudmundsson.

Paolo Vanoli and his Viola have gone nine games without a win in all competitions before kick-off. He chose Edin Dzeko to partner Keane in the centre, with the Bosnian also wearing the captain’s armband in the absence of Luca Ranieri. There have also been massive changes in the midfield, with Amir Richardson, Hans Nicolusi Cavilla and Sher Ndour starting.

Fiorentina had their fair share of chances in the first quarter: Dzeko was brilliant in the penalty area after six minutes but failed to keep his header under the crossbar.

The home side couldn’t believe they hadn’t scored yet in the 17th minute when Dzeko fired a powerful half-volley into the penalty area after a corner kick. His effort looked like a shot but was unexpectedly blocked by Keane on the edge of the six-yard box. Subsequently, the Italian’s shot was saved by goalkeeper Ruslan Nesheret.

Fiorentina took the lead after a minute. It was a center forward’s dream for Keane, who was unmarked in the penalty area and after a perfect pass from Dodo’s right wing, he just had to time his jump and aim his header in the right direction.

Dynamo Kiev equalized with a screamer in the second half. Mikhaylenko was given slightly too much time from 25 yards out, sending a lightning bolt past David De Gea and into the bottom right corner of the net.

It was Vanori’s second-half substitutions that saved him from tonight’s troubles: two-thirds of the way through, he made three substitutions, with Gudmundsson, Christian Kouame and Fabiano all coming on.

Gudmundsson’s impact was immediate. He finished with three shots in a matter of minutes to put the Viola back in front.

Kean directed Parisi’s cross towards goal and Neshcheret produced a fine save, but the goalkeeper was still on the pitch when the Icelander burst into the penalty area and knocked the rebound home.

Fiorentina should have put the game in doubt with two minutes of normal time left, but Keane’s shot hit the goalkeeper’s legs as he nearly went one-on-one into the penalty area.

Tonight’s result temporarily moves Fiorentina up to seventh in the La Liga table, although most of the week’s games are yet to be concluded.

Keane (F) 18′, Mikhaylenko (D) 55′, Gudmundsson (F) 74′.
