Ubisoft has admitted that some copies of Assassin’s Creed Shadows had specific dates announced ahead of release, calling the leak “unfortunate.” The publisher has warned that leaked gameplay footage seen on social media platforms does not represent the final game and is taking steps to prevent the spread of spoilers. The company released the update after several physical copies of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows were reportedly sold ahead of its March 20 release, leading to details and gameplay footage of the game being leaked.
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows leaked “unfortunately”
“We are aware that players have accessed Assassin’s Creed Shadows ahead of its official launch,” Ubisoft said in a statement posted to its social media channels on Tuesday. “The development team is still working on patches to prepare the experience for launch, and any footage shared online is not indicative of the final quality of the game.”
“Leaks are unfortunate and may dampen the excitement for players. We kindly ask that you do not ruin the experience for others. Thank you to our community for the steps we have taken to protect everyone from disruption,” the company added.
Ubisoft also said it will prepare more “official surprises” in the coming weeks.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows leaked online over the weekend, with reports that some users were able to purchase physical copies of the game in advance on Facebook Marketplace. Details of the upcoming game have also been shared online by users claiming to have played the game – several such posts have since been deleted.
However, leaked footage and information from the game have been republished online, with one post claiming that Animus Anomalies, a mission type from older Assassin’s Creed games, will return in Shadows.
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows will launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X on March 20 after two delays. The open-world action role-playing game was originally planned to release in November 2024, but was later delayed to February 14, 2025. Ubisoft said at the time that the delay was to further refine the game. Last month, the publisher pushed back the release date again to incorporate user feedback.
