Tyler Hansbrough has funny answer for Duke punch claim

The NCAA Tournament kicks off this week, with 68 teams hoping to capture the title and be crowned a national champion in April. Tyler Hansbrough is a former North Carolina player who has had great success in the tournament, reaching two Final Fours and winning a national championship.

The four-time All-American was at the Chicago offices of Barstool Sports on Monday for a “Pro vs. Joe”-style basketball game. But before that, he appeared on Yak and spent some time talking to the host.

One of the topics discussed was North Carolina’s win over Duke in February at the Dean Dome. During the broadcast of that game, Hansbrough was asked about Duke head coach Jon Scheyer’s statement that a staff member was assaulted on the field.

Hansbrough replied humorously that he didn’t see anything happen but didn’t call Scheer a liar, either.

“You know, I tell people about it. I’m right there, I’m on the broadcast, I’m in the scorer’s table,” Hansbrough said. “I didn’t see it. I’m not saying he’s a liar, I’m not saying it happened, but if I were Jon Sheyer, I would have walked into the locker room, found an assistant coach and beat him coldly in front of his face. I told him, ‘Yo, one of these Carolina fans did this to you. I just lied to the media and said we were being robbed here.'”

Hansbrough went on to talk about the two-field offense and how rare it is. He also said how lucky UNC was to win the game because they didn’t lead until the end.

It’s all in good fun for Hansbrough, who still has some hatred for Duke, and it’s a pretty hilarious answer.
