Trump Throws Sunday Fit Over His Biggest Obsession

President Donald Trump on Sunday strongly opposed legal action to block the construction of a massive ballroom at the White House.

“There is no practical or reasonable way to go back,” Trump wrote on his Truth social platform. “Too late!”

The National Trust for Historic Preservation filed a lawsuit last month to block construction of the ballroom after Trump demolished the east wing without notice last year to make way for a new building that would dwarf the main residence.

Trump fired back:

“So-called ‘preservationists’ who take funding from the most unusual of places should not be allowed to block this desperately needed expansion of our great White House, and the president never needs permission to alter or enhance this place because it sits on exceptional foundations, no matter how large (and important!) that enhancement may be.”

U.S. District Judge Richard Leon last week questioned the government’s legal authority over the project and seemed skeptical as he considered a potential injunction. The judge said he will make a decision next month.

Trump said the ballroom’s up to $400 million cost would be funded by private donations, raising ethical and other questions that the White House has yet to answer.

But on Sunday, he defended the planned facility as “a great, great, beautiful gift to the United States of America” and complained that the east wing had been “tarnished” by previous renovations.

Trump also said the lawsuit resulted in the exposure of “top secret” information about the project.

He wrote:

“Moreover, in this case, it was done with the design, consent, and approval at the highest levels of the U.S. military and Secret Service. Unfortunately, the mere filing of this ridiculous lawsuit has exposed this hitherto top-secret fact. Halting construction at such a late hour when so much work has already been ordered and completed would be devastating to the White House, our country, and all parties involved.”

While he didn’t reveal more specifics, it’s known that the East Wing houses the Presidential Emergency Operations Center — aka the “underground bunker,” which Trump reportedly used during protests in 2020 — and the new project could replace and/or upgrade that facility.

Trump has been obsessed with the project, which he often volunteers. Earlier this month, he even interrupted a White House meeting with oil industry executives to stand up, walk to a window and stare at a construction site.

Trump posted on Truth Social on Sunday about a variety of topics, including complaints about the NFL, Canada and reporter Don Lemon. He also wrote about ongoing unrest in Minneapolis, which has become more tense after federal agents fatally shot 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretty.
