49ers quarterback Brock Purdy had a huge performance against the Colts on Monday night, scoring five touchdowns in a 48-27 victory.

San Francisco is now 6-1 in Purdy’s season opener, which is part of the reason the club has a chance to earn the NFC’s top seed and a coveted first-round playoff spot.

Purdy’s success is nothing new, and left tackle Trent Williams explained some of the reasons why the quarterback performed so well after Monday’s game.

“You know, when you’re huddled together, there’s only one voice speaking, right? And you’ve 10 grown men staring at you,” Williams said at a news conference. “You can’t fool adults, right? His confidence in that group no matter what phase of the game, those long play calls, just getting everybody where they need to be, I mean – he did it at a very high level from start to finish.

“I’ve always said it — he’s God-sent, man, and we got him to where we got him. Obviously, he’s getting what he deserves now. But … he’s still the same guy. Still the same guy he was in his rookie year. He’s just a player, man.”

Purdy went 25-of-34 for 295 yards, five touchdowns and one interception in Monday night’s game. In seven games this year, Purdy has completed 68.8 percent of his passes for 1,737 yards, 17 touchdowns and eight picks.
