Travis Kelce praises KC spot while Jason disses Midwest tacos

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Travis and Jason Kelce disagree on the best place to find tacos. This week’s debate “New Heights” Podcast These included some disparaging comments from Jason about Kansas City’s Mexican food, and a Kansas City fast-food restaurant’s social media following doubling.

“I’m not going to Kansas City for tacos,” Jason said.

“Why?” Travis responded.

“Because this is the Midwest. I’ll go to L.A. for tacos, I’ll go to Miami for tacos,” Jason explained.

While Kelce’s brother may not believe it, the future Chiefs Hall of Fame tight end gave a shout-out to one of his favorite KC tacos on Wednesday’s New Heights podcast.

“My phone was blowing up, saying hey, did you see the podcast?” said Rudy Garcia Jr., owner of Rudy’s Tenampa Taqueria.

“Rudy’s? I’m not going to go to a taco place called Rudy’s,” Jason Kelce exclaimed.

Rudy’s has been in Westport for more than 30 years and now has a location in Lenexa.

“Anybody who was skeptical just took one bite and they were hooked,” Garcia said of the taqueria name he shares with his father, Rudy’s founder.

Rudy Sr. said this happened a decade ago when Travis started coming over, almost always ordering fried chicken tacos. On Thursday, New Heights followers followed suit.

“I’m a 92 percent person who loves the podcast and loves Travis and Jason and what they do for the community,” said first-time customer Nate Hetmanek.

“You’re going to get a mix of tacos. Some places have birria, some places have carnitas, you want one taco, and the taco trail will probably have multiple options. Come experience the trail and give us a chance,” said Ritz Dasgupta, marketing director for Visit Kansas City Kansas.

“It shouldn’t be in a Kansas City mall. I’m going to try these tacos and I’ll be shocked if they can compete,” Jason told Travis while praising a taco truck in Los Angeles.

“If he comes in, I’d be happy to have him here and eat some really good Mexican food,” Rudy Garcia Sr. said.

Dasgupta added that the Taco Trail offers private bus tours if Jason Kelce wants to make sure he’s giving an educated opinion on the quality of tacos in Kansas City.
