Trail Blazers overcame Avdija’s absence to beat the Hawks 117-101

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Shaden Sharp scored 24 points and the Portland Trail Blazers overcame the absence of high-scoring scorer Deni Avdija to beat the Atlanta Hawks 117-101 on Thursday night.

Avdija, who missed his second straight game with lower back soreness, averaged 26.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game.

The Trail Blazers led 88-87 entering the fourth quarter and pulled away. The Trail Blazers have lost two straight after winning five straight.

Jerami Grant scored 16 points and Rayan Rupert scored 13 points. Jrue Holiday scored 12 points in his third game back after missing 27 games with a right calf injury.

Onyeka Okongwu scored 26 points for Atlanta. The Eagles are 1-3 in four games. They have suffered nine straight losses in Portland since February 13, 2017.

CJ McCollum scored 20 points in his third game with the Hawks since Trae Young was traded to the Wizards. McCollum played his first 8 1/2 seasons in Portland.

Atlanta’s Kristaps Porzingis missed his fourth straight game with Achilles issues.
