Tracking all the Denver Broncos coaching news and rumors

While the Denver Broncos won’t be looking for a new head coach this offseason (thank you Sean Payton), several coaches on their current staff will be candidates for other positions this recruiting cycle.

The biggest name we’ll be tracking is defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. He returned to the Broncos three seasons ago and, after a rough start early on, has turned this Broncos defense into one of the best in the NFL over the past two seasons. His defense will lead the NFL in sacks for the second straight year, and Joseph is expected to be a top head coaching candidate this offseason.

Another name to keep an eye on is Davis Webb, the Broncos’ current offensive passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach. He was an important part of the development of quarterback Bo Nix and is regarded as one of the most promising coaches in the NFL. He’s a dark horse head coaching candidate and a strong candidate to be the offensive coordinator elsewhere next season.

While assistant head coach and defensive passing game coordinator Jim Leonhard is considered the top internal candidate to replace Vance Joseph, he could also be on the radar of other teams if he lands a head coaching job elsewhere. If Joseph doesn’t get one of the available head coaching jobs, I imagine the team will look to interview Leonhard to be their defensive coordinator.

While all three are notable names, Sean Payton’s staff saw several assistant coach and position coach promotions elsewhere last season. With the Broncos’ success and track record, I expect the same scenario to play out again this offseason.

We’ll be tracking all Broncos coaching news and rumors throughout the offseason and keeping you updated on all the latest Broncos coaching happenings.
