Tottenham Hotspur Are In The Running To Recruit This Serie A Defender: Decent Fit For Frank?

In a recent article by X, journalist Rudy Galetti mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are recruiting Lecce defender Thiago Gabriel. Spurs are said to have to compete with Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Everton in the race for the Portuguese talent.

Gabriel’s outstanding performance in Italian football

Gabriel has proven his worth as an outstanding contributor in defense for Lecce. The 21-year-old has scored once in 21 games for the Italian club this season.

The Portuguese club performed well defensively in the half-court, making 34 tackles, 21 interceptions, 19 interceptions and 123 clearances in Serie A. In Italian Serie A, his passing success rate is 88.7% (statistics from fbref.com), and his ball possession rate is also relatively good.

His current contract at the Italian club expires in the summer of 2027, which may make it difficult for Tottenham to sign him cheaply this year.

Is Gabriel a good fit for Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank?

Gabriel is an excellent tackler and has good timing to win the ball back for his team inside the half. He usually uses his feet to pass the ball when needed and is good at breaking out from the back.

Gabriel is 1.96m tall and can use his strong body to suppress the opponent’s offensive players in the air. However, there are also concerns over whether he will be able to cope with the high intensity of the Premier League if Tottenham succeed in bringing him in this year.

We can expect Gabriel to bring more strength and power to Tottenham manager Thomas Frank’s backline. He has the quality to push for a regular spot in the north London club’s first team in the coming years.

At 21 years old, Gabriel’s future looks promising as long as he continues to improve each season. In the future, he will also help the North London club compete on all fronts. However, Frank must give him some time to adapt to life at Tottenham Hotspur before he can get the best out of the talented defender. All in all, Gabriel is perfect for Tottenham’s needs in the long term.
