Tonie Morgan helps Kentucky rally from 13-point deficit to beat Oklahoma 63-57

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Tony Morgan scored 21 points to lead No. 6 Kentucky to a 63-57 victory over No. 5 Oklahoma on Sunday.

The Wildcats (15-2, 3-1 Southeastern Conference) fought back from a 13-point second quarter deficit to win against a Top 10 opponent for the second time in two weeks. Kentucky opened conference play with an 80-78 victory over No. 12 LSU on January 1 in Baton Rouge. The Tigers were ranked fifth at the time.

Clara Strack followed Morgan with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Strike held three of Kentucky’s eight blocks in the game. Jordan Obi added 11 points for the Wildcats. Morgan, the SEC Player of the Week, has scored 50 points in the Wildcats’ last three games. After hitting a three-pointer in the second quarter, she hit a nice four-pointer

After losing to Alabama 64-51, the Wildcats forced 18 turnovers in the final four minutes and held the Sooners scoreless before scoring the game’s final six points. Oklahoma led by 13 points, 24-11, with 7:17 left in the first half, but tied the score at 34-34 after halftime.

The Wildcats lost senior Teonni Key, the team’s third leading scorer (11 points per game). Key is recovering from an elbow injury he suffered in a 74-52 win over Missouri on Jan. 4.

Aaliyah Chavez led Oklahoma (14-3, 2-2) with 18 points, Raegan Beers had 14 points and Payton Verhulst had 13 points. Beals was plagued by foul trouble, played only 23 minutes and missed most of the second half.
