Following a surprise appearance on “AEW Dynamite” on January 28, Tommaso Ciampa made his highly anticipated All-Elite Wrestling debut on the January 31 episode of “AEW Collision.” He stepped forward and challenged Mark Briscoe for the AEW TNT Championship. After a fierce battle, Ciampa shocked the world and defeated Briscoe to become the new AEW TNT Champion.
The pair were evenly matched in the early going, with neither champion nor challenger able to establish any dominance, but Briscoe broke through after N’Zugiri and Topconhilo were outside. Briscoe was in the lead until Ciampa dodged a chop and immediately attacked, whipping Briscoe into the corner. However, the champion avoided Ciampa and took action on the apron in an attempt to knock the challenger to the ground. The incident came back to haunt Briscoe and Ciampa fought back and put a nasty Psycho Driller on the apron to control the match as the match went to commercial break. Ciampa continued his aggression during the break, wearing down the champion and holding the lead until the 10-minute mark expired.

After the break, Briscoe came back with a series of strikes, but when he went for the Exploder Suplex, Ciampa blocked it. The champ decided to take the action back to the outside, hitting a kick through the ropes before tossing Ciampa into the ring post before hitting a Blockbuster on the apron. When the action returned to the ring, Ciampa had enough room left in the tank to hit a Draping DDT and decided to take the action to the top rope in hopes of hitting the Avalanche Psycho Driller. However, Brisco blocks it and hits the Frogbow for a near fall, which causes him to go back to the top rope, but Ciampa follows up and hits the Avalanche Spirit Drill for a two count.
With five minutes left in the match, the two were on the outside again, leading to Briscoe hitting a Froggy Bow from the top rope to the outside and through the table on a standing Ciampa. Briscoe and Ciampa were on the floor for the ten count with only two minutes left on the clock, and when Briscoe was on fire after being hit with a German Suplex, Ciampa hit a running knee, eventually sending Briscoe down for the three count and a shock victory. The “Psycho” became the second AEW wrestler to win the title in their debut match, following Mercedes Monáe.
