Toby Collyer highlights Fernandes magic, Casemiro’s leadership at Manchester United

Manchester United academy graduate Toby Collier has revealed he is often surprised by Bruno Fernandes in training.

Collier is currently on loan at Hull City, but had a brief spell with Manchester United’s first team during the 2024-25 season, making 13 appearances in all competitions.

In a recent interview, the 22-year-old was full of praise for Fernandes when asked which players performed best in training.

“In terms of ability, Bruno Fernandez,” Collier told The Athletic.

“Some of the things he did in training would make me think, ‘This isn’t normal, I don’t get it.'”

“Obviously, he’s smart, but he can really find a pass and turn around without even realizing it. It’s incredible.”

The young midfielder also praised Casemiro’s exemplary influence.

“Casemiro is also an important role model and a player I respect,” he added.

“Being around him for the last four years, just watching and seeing the little things he does – first and foremost in training, being very professional.”

Collier made his first European start alongside Fernandes against Rangers, with an increasing number of players praising the United talisman since his arrival at Old Trafford.

Fernandes is two assists away from setting a new Premier League record for assists in a season, a record currently held by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.

Collier, meanwhile, is hoping to help Hull City return to the Premier League after a nine-year absence.

The Tigers will face Millwall in the first leg of their play-off semi-final on Friday.
