Titans’ Darrell Baker graded one of worst perimeter corners in 2025

The Tennessee Titans have some big questions to answer in the next few days as they make their final moves before the new league year and the start of free agency.

One of the major areas of concern is the cornerback position, with only the disappointing and oft-injured L’Jarius Sneed serving as a veteran presence on an inexperienced team and who could become a salary cap casualty after two dismal seasons in Nashville.

The Titans also must decide what to do with Darrell Baker Jr., who enters the offseason as a restricted free agent. As Nic Bodiford of Pro Football Focus (PFF) points out, while Baker is the Titans’ only consistent cornerback in 2025, he has had some struggles and was one of the lowest-graded outside cornerbacks in the NFL last season.

Back in Week 1 of 2023, Baker was successfully identified as the target cornerback in his first career start. Today he is still a beatable opponent. His 54.8 PFF defensive grade ranked 62nd among 71 NFL cornerbacks with at least 600 defensive snaps.

Baker enters the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He earned a starting job with the Indianapolis Colts in 2023 and did the same with the Titans the past two seasons.

Although Baker moderately dissuaded quarterbacks from throwing the ball into his primary defensive zone too often, he allowed 0.2 yards from explosive play on each completed pass.

Considering the complete lack of experienced depth at cornerback, this will be an interesting decision for the Titans, especially if they decide to part ways with Snead. Tennessee leads the NFL in salary cap space and may decide to upgrade in free agency and the draft, but with a new defensive system in place, bringing back Baker could be a smart move.
