Jaylen Brown scored a Celtics-high 29 points and Jayson Tatum overcame a slow start with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Derrick White scored 15 points. The loss ended the Celtics’ four-game winning streak and left them just half a game ahead of the second-place New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference.

Timberwolves All-Star guard Anthony Edwards missed his fourth straight game with right knee inflammation. Forward Naz Reid, back after missing two games with a right ankle sprain, scored eight of his 11 points during Minnesota’s 16-0 run midway through the final quarter.

The Timberwolves trailed 80-81, but Hyland’s three-pointer from the right wing gave the Timberwolves the lead for good with 9:05 left. Reed scored 8 points in a row in this round, including a three-pointer and 3 mixed scores.

Tatum, playing his eighth game since returning from Achilles surgery, was scoreless in the first half and Boston squandered a 15-point lead and trailed 47-44 at halftime, but scored 13 points in the third quarter.
